In a recent announcement, Xiaomi has provided detailed information regarding the software support timelines for the Pad 7 and Pad 7 Pro tablets, which were launched globally in March. The company has updated its Product Security Center to indicate the duration of updates each model will receive, leaving users pleasantly surprised.
The Pad 7 Pro, despite boasting advanced features, is set to receive only two major Android updates along with security patches until 2028. In contrast, the more budget-friendly Pad 7 is slated to receive support for four full Android versions and security updates extending until 2031. Consequently, the Pad 7 guarantees four years of software updates and six years of security support, whereas the Pad 7 Pro is limited to a mere two years of software and three years of security updates. The rationale behind this substantial discrepancy between the two models remains undisclosed.
In terms of features, both tablets are furnished with 11.2-inch displays, offering a 3.2K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The Pad 7 is powered by the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 processor and includes an 8 MP front camera, a 13 MP rear camera, Wi-Fi 6E support, and an 8,850mAh battery capable of 45W fast charging. On the other hand, the Pad 7 Pro is equipped with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, a 32 MP front camera, a 50 MP main camera, Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, and supports 67W fast charging. Both models share the same battery capacity.
First unveiled in October 2024, these two tablets are likely to influence consumer choices significantly, primarily due to the marked difference in their software support durations.
