The eagerly anticipated iOS 19 update is set to be unveiled at the WWDC Developer Conference on June 9th. With this new iteration, Apple aims to introduce a plethora of innovative features. However, not all iPhone models will be able to enjoy these advancements. Let’s delve into which models will receive this update and which ones will be left behind.
Why the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max Won’t Get the iOS 19 Update
The iOS 19 update marks the end of the line for certain aging iPhone models. Specifically, the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max will not be compatible with iOS 19, leaving their users seeking alternatives. But why are these models being excluded?
A12 Bionic Chip No Longer Supported
Released in 2018, the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max models are powered by the A12 Bionic chip. While this processor was cutting-edge at its debut, it has since fallen short of supporting the advanced features that Apple plans to implement in iOS 19. This includes enhanced AI capabilities, immersive augmented reality experiences, and robust security enhancements.
Apple’s update policy ensures that only devices with compatible hardware receive new iOS versions. With iOS 19, the company is discontinuing support for the A12 Bionic processor, making these models ineligible for the update.
Anticipated to be one of the most significant updates in recent years, iOS 19 will be available for the following models:
One of the most notable changes expected in iOS 19 is a revamp of application icons and logo designs, with speculation pointing towards more rounded aesthetics. Additionally, sub-tab designs, such as those in Apple Music and the App Store, are also expected to undergo a transformation. The general interface is predicted to adopt a more rounded design philosophy, enhancing the overall user experience.
While these predictions are exciting, they remain speculative until the official announcement during the WWDC event from June 9 – 13. In addition to iOS 19, Apple will also introduce updates to iPadOS 19, macOS 16, tvOS 19, watchOS 12, and visionOS 3. The event can be streamed on Apple YouTube, the Apple Developer app, and the Apple website. The beta version is anticipated to be released the same day as the official announcement.
