Ubisoft is making strides to bring back The Crew 2 with a much-awaited offline mode, as revealed in a recent update video. This development follows the game’s removal from sale and the shutdown of its servers, rekindling discussions about digital game ownership. The situation escalated with a legal battle as players took action against the French gaming giant, urging Ubisoft to fulfill its promise of an offline experience.
Progress and Challenges in Developing Offline Play
In the video update, producer Gregory Corgie highlighted that the offline mode aims to offer a hybrid gaming experience, blending online and offline elements seamlessly. He shared that the transition process has been smooth for both The Crew 2 and its successor, The Crew Motorfest. However, Corgie emphasized that developing this feature is resource-intensive and time-consuming. Ubisoft is targeting a release for this hybrid mode by the end of 2025.
Adapting Gameplay for Offline Enjoyment
Given that The Crew 2 is fundamentally an MMO, the development team is working on adapting its core gameplay mechanics for offline play. Some multiplayer features will not be available offline, ensuring a balanced yet engaging experience. Corgie noted that while the focus is currently on The Crew 2, fans will have to wait longer for offline capabilities in The Crew Motorfest, as ongoing support and live service aspects take precedence.
Looking Ahead
With The Crew 2 originally launched in 2018, players are eagerly anticipating the enhanced offline version. While no specific timeline has been set for The Crew Motorfest‘s offline mode, Ubisoft’s commitment to enhancing player experiences is evident, promising an exciting future for The Crew series.
