The Israeli military announced on Tuesday the successful targeting and elimination of Hassan Ali Badir, a prominent figure within Hezbollah and the Iranian Quds Forces. This operation, conducted in the southern suburbs of Beirut, marks a significant first since the recent escalation of tensions. The Israeli forces executed an airstrike in this region on March 28, following the ceasefire agreement initiated on November 27, 2024. The airstrike tragically resulted in three fatalities and left seven individuals injured.
The ceasefire agreement, designed to stabilize the region, is monitored by the Ceasefire Supervision Committee. This committee features representatives from the United Nations Interim Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), alongside delegates from Lebanon, Israel, France, and the United States.
Despite the ceasefire’s intent to reduce hostilities, Israel has been accused of frequently breaching this agreement. Lebanese authorities report that the Israeli army’s actions post-ceasefire have resulted in hundreds of casualties, both fatalities and injuries.
During ground offensives, the Israeli military advanced into border towns, maintaining positions at strategic locations such as Hamamis Hill, Aziyya Hill, Uveyda Hill, Balat Mountain, and Lebbune Hill. This presence persists despite the ceasefire’s stipulations for withdrawal from these areas.
