Stephen Curry Shines as Warriors Triumph Over Grizzlies
In an electrifying display on Tuesday night, Stephen Curry came tantalizingly close to setting a new 3-point record. The Golden State Warriors secured a victorious 134-125 win against the Memphis Grizzlies, with Curry delivering a stellar performance.
The superstar guard racked up an impressive 52 points, sinking 12 three-pointers. In addition to his scoring prowess, Curry contributed 10 rebounds, eight assists, and five steals. Remarkably, he was just three 3-pointers shy of breaking the record held by his former teammate Klay Thompson, and needed one more to match his personal best.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr expressed admiration, stating, “Fifty-two points with people draped all over him, all game long. I’ve been witnessing this for 11 years, and even before I became his coach… You truly grasp the magnitude of his talent.” He further added, “The guy is amazing to watch.”
In their previous encounter, Curry was held without a field goal, and the Warriors suffered a crushing 51-point defeat to the Grizzlies. However, Curry mentioned he had put that game behind him, focusing instead on the crucial playoff implications of this match.
With the victory, the Warriors moved to fifth place in the Western Conference standings, boasting a 44-31 record. The Grizzlies, on the other hand, slipped to a 44-32 record. Golden State now holds a half-game advantage over the Minnesota Timberwolves and a full game lead over the Los Angeles Clippers.
Adding to the night’s achievements, Curry surpassed the legendary Jerry West to claim the 25th spot on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Reflecting on this milestone, Curry remarked, “I got a little emotional about that. It was special. In his memory. What he meant to our organization, the league, to the world of basketball… That’s the logo.”
Looking ahead, the Golden State Warriors will face off against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night, while the Memphis Grizzlies are set to challenge the Miami Heat.
