During the Bit Reactor panel at Star Wars Celebration in Japan, an exciting announcement was made about a new game: Star Wars Zero Company. The announcement was accompanied by a thrilling cinematic trailer, giving fans a tantalizing glimpse into what to expect.
Although the trailer did not showcase gameplay, it hinted at an XCOM-style tactical strategy experience set in the rich Star Wars universe. Star Wars Zero Company is set during the tumultuous Clone Wars era, where players will assume the role of Hawks, a former Republic officer, who leads the Zero Company. This team is tasked with confronting a formidable threat that could spell doom for the galaxy if left unchecked. To succeed, the team must overcome internal conflicts and work together harmoniously.
Bit Reactor CEO and game director Greg Foertsch shared insights at the panel, revealing that the team drew inspiration from various Star Wars narratives such as the political intrigue of Andor, the gritty battlefields of Rogue One, and the classic adventure of the original trilogy. Their aim is to fully leverage the vast possibilities offered by the Star Wars universe.
Foertsch emphasized that they are creating “a game that blends the captivating Star Wars universe with the turn-based tactical strategy genre”. The goal is to deliver an immersive experience with a deep narrative set in the Clone Wars era, where players’ choices have significant consequences.
Douglas Reilly, executive vice president and general manager of Lucasfilm Games, expressed the studio’s enthusiasm for the tactical strategy genre and their long-standing desire to create a game in this style. He commented, “The best tactical strategy games are about meaningful choices. We believe we’ve partnered effectively with Bit Reactor to craft an engaging and innovative game unique to Star Wars.”
As a fan of both the Star Wars universe and tactical strategy games, the announcement of Star Wars Zero Company is particularly thrilling. Comparisons to games like Fire Emblem, especially regarding team relationship management, are promising. With high expectations set, fans eagerly await to see if the game will meet them.
The game is anticipated to release in 2026, and it has undoubtedly been added to our watchlist as we look forward to experiencing this new chapter in Star Wars gaming.
