Josef Fares and Hazelight Studios have done it again! Their latest game, Split Fiction, has captured the hearts of players worldwide, echoing the success of its predecessors. Remarkably, the game sold 2 million copies within its first week of release. This phenomenal achievement has paved the way for an ambitious cinematic adaptation.
As reported by Variety, John M. Chu has been tapped to direct the Split Fiction movie. The film’s cast includes the talented Sydney Sweeney, known for her captivating performances. The screenplay is in the capable hands of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the duo behind the iconic ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Wolverine’ films.
The movie will be produced by Story Kitchen (formerly dj2 Entertainment), spearheaded by Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson, alongside Chu’s Electric Somewhere. Interestingly, Sweeney might also serve as a producer. However, it remains uncertain if she will portray Zoe or Mio, the game’s central characters.
The journey of video games to the silver screen has been a rollercoaster. Some adaptations make us wonder if they were necessary, while others achieve ‘masterpiece’ status. There are also instances like the Minecraft movie, which despite critical reviews, triumphed at the box office.
The anticipation for the Split Fiction adaptation is palpable. Will this movie join the ranks of beloved adaptations, or will it falter? Only time will tell if Split Fiction with Sweeney will resonate with audiences as the game did.
