Atomfall’s Impressive Launch

Last month marked the release of Atomfall, the latest game from Rebellion. The game has been well-received by players and critics alike, and its popularity is evident in the numbers. Earlier this month, the developers announced on Twitter (X) that the game had reached 1.5 million players. Since then, it has surpassed the 2 million player milestone.

Insights from Rebellion’s CEO

In an insightful interview, Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley discussed the game’s performance, the studio’s development philosophy, and future aspirations. Kingsley highlighted, “The size of our studio and the stability we’ve achieved allow us to take risks in developing unique games like Atomfall. Thankfully, this risk has paid off.” He explained that venturing beyond their established series to create a fresh IP was a strategic and fruitful decision.

He continued, “Our goal is to replicate success, which means continuing with more Sniper Elite, Zombie Army, and Strange Brigade titles. Now, Atomfall has joined that list of successful projects. While securing funding remains a concern, our strategy is to maintain a balance of two-thirds sequels to one-third new IPs. This approach allows us to explore new avenues.”

Future Prospects and Collaboration

Kingsley acknowledged that Rebellion isn’t in a position to allocate a $200 million budget for a single game, so they focus on projects within their financial capabilities. He emphasized the importance of new IPs being discovered by players, and noted that Atomfall’s inclusion in Game Pass on its launch day was instrumental to its success. The collaboration with Game Pass proved beneficial, and Rebellion is keen to explore similar partnerships in the future.

Atomfall was one of Kingsley’s long-held dreams, and he has another vision for their next project: developing a game set in a medieval fantasy world. The question remains, will Rebellion collaborate with Microsoft once more to bring this dream to life?
