Ascend to new heights at the View, the revolving bar and restaurant perched on the 47th and 48th floors of the iconic New York Marriott Marquis. As you ride the elevator up, the popping in your ears signals your arrival at this extraordinary venue, where the city skyline unfurls in a mesmerizing panorama.

On a recent Saturday night, the restaurant was alive with the buzz of families, groups of friends, and couples. They indulged in glasses of Champagne and seafood towers while the skyline gradually transformed around them. The lounge completes a full rotation every 45 minutes, offering guests just enough time to savor a cocktail as the cityscape changes.

The Revival of a Classic

Originally opened in Times Square in 1985, the View closed its doors in 2020. Now, it marks a remarkable return as part of a trend of revitalizing revolving restaurants. This revival is guided by the visionary restaurateur Danny Meyer and the talented architect David Rockwell. The outdated decor has been replaced with sophisticated blue velvet banquettes, a sleek black marble bar, and stunning Art Deco-inspired glass installations.

“When do you get the chance to create a revolving restaurant in the theater district?” mused Danny Meyer. His enthusiasm for the project is palpable.

A Nostalgic and Modern Experience

Joseph Mirrone, a former New Yorker who stopped by with his son for a post-theater coffee and dessert, shared his delight: “This is one of the best views. You can sit in one spot, and the whole city revolves around you.”

Meyer, whose childhood memories are filled with visits to Stouffer’s Top of the Riverfront, a revolving restaurant in St. Louis, was eager to breathe new life into this unique dining experience. “Marriott’s proposal felt like a unique opportunity,” he explained. “When else would someone ask, ‘Would you like to do a revolving restaurant in the theater district?'”
