Android 12 and Android 12L devices will no longer receive Google’s monthly security patches as of the April 2025 update. This marks the official discontinuation of support for these versions. Google’s monthly security patches aim to address vulnerabilities within the Android ecosystem. Before the April 2025 patch, these updates were applicable to devices running Android 12 and later versions.
Introduced on October 4, 2021, Android 12, followed by Android 12L on March 7, 2022, received regular security updates. However, it is Google’s policy to support older Android versions with security updates for approximately 3.5 years post-launch. Consequently, the cessation of support for Android 12 and 12L aligns with this policy.
Despite the cessation, many users still operate devices with these Android versions. While these devices will continue to benefit from security updates for Google apps and Project Mainline modules, they are unlikely to receive further patches addressing core Android vulnerabilities.
