Apple seems poised to enter the foldable phone arena with the introduction of the iPhone Fold, aiming to challenge the dominance of the Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel Folds. Recent information has shed light on the display specs of this groundbreaking device.
According to details shared by the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station, the iPhone Fold will feature an internal display measuring 7.76 inches with a resolution of 2,713 x 1,920. This display will boast under-display camera technology, a first for Apple. Complementing this, the outer display will measure 5.49 inches with a resolution of 2,088 x 1,422 and will include a punch-hole camera.
Previously, rumors suggested that the iPhone Fold’s internal display would adopt a 4:3 aspect ratio, a claim supported by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo also assured that the display would be free from the screen wrinkles that have plagued other foldables, a concern Apple has been keen to address. The introduction of an under-display camera sensor on the inner screen marks a significant innovation.
Speculation is rife that Apple might integrate Dynamic Island for swift authentication on the Fold’s outer screen. This could justify the choice of a perforated camera for the outer display, potentially indicating a departure from Face ID to a more traditional Touch ID solution. This might be incorporated into the Power Button, akin to the Touch ID feature in the iPad Air series.
In earlier reports, Apple was also said to be developing a large 18.8-inch foldable iPad with novel in-display Face ID sensors for authentication. While Kuo predicts Face ID won’t feature in the iPhone Fold, whether Apple will opt for the iPad Air-style Touch ID on the Power Button or an in-display sensor remains uncertain.
Anticipation builds as Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone by the end of next year, with an estimated price of around $2,000. Analyst Jeff Pu has indicated that the phone has already entered the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase. Stay tuned for more updates as the iPhone Fold’s launch approaches. At a price point of $2,000, would you consider making the switch to a foldable iPhone?
