In February, Apple expanded its SE series by introducing the cost-effective iPhone 16e. This new addition quickly gained traction, significantly contributing to Apple’s ascendancy in the global smartphone market during the first quarter of 2025. The iPhone 16e not only achieved impressive sales figures but also solidified Apple’s position as a market leader.
Following the success of the 16e model, rumors have surfaced regarding Apple’s potential plans to release the iPhone 17e next year. However, renowned Apple analyst Mark Gurman expresses skepticism about the company’s intentions. According to Gurman, although the iPhone 16e’s appeal is bolstered by its contemporary design and robust hardware, the iPhone 17e might not offer substantial enhancements.
Gurman emphasizes that the 16e model is marketed as a variant of the iPhone 16 rather than as a successor to the SE line. Consequently, a prospective iPhone 17e, offering only minor upgrades, might not generate significant interest if the 16e continues to perform well. Despite this uncertainty, Gurman suggests that releasing a new model annually could be a strategic move for Apple to remain competitive in the mid-range segment.
