Apple has unveiled macOS Sequoia 15.4.1, a crucial update following the initial release of macOS Sequoia in September. This latest version arrives just two weeks after macOS Sequoia 15.4, addressing significant security vulnerabilities.
This update is highly recommended for all users as it provides essential bug fixes and security enhancements. Apple underscores the importance of this update, warning users about two major security flaws that have potentially been exploited.
Reports indicate that these vulnerabilities might have been targeted in a “highly sophisticated attack” against specific individuals. One issue resides within CoreAudio, where processing a maliciously crafted audio file could lead to code execution. Apple has addressed this with improved bounds checking, mitigating the memory corruption issue.
The second vulnerability concerns pointer authentication code. An attacker with the capability of arbitrary reading and writing could bypass the Pointer Authentication safeguards, intended to prevent memory tampering. Apple has effectively removed the vulnerable code to counter this threat.
To ensure your system’s security, Mac users can download the macOS Sequoia update for free through the System Settings > Software Update on all compatible Mac models running macOS 15.
