Allianz Turkey, in partnership with the Koruncuk Foundation, has embarked on a significant initiative to support girls at risk of losing access to basic amenities and education. The project, titled ‘A Girl Will Come’, has commenced with the laying of the foundation for a new dormitory in Istanbul’s Koruncukköy, a structure intended to expand the current capacity and provide a nurturing home for more girls. This endeavor is made possible with an investment exceeding 2 million euros, generously supported by Allianz Group.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Tolga Gürkan, the Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Turkey, emphasized the organization’s commitment to being a lifelong ally for the girls of Koruncuk through the ‘A Girl Will Come’ program. He highlighted the company’s dedication to investing in Turkey’s future, reflecting its long-standing legacy as a centennial institution in the country.
The upcoming facility, located within the Koruncuk Foundation’s Bolluca premises in Arnavutköy, Istanbul, will span 2,230 square meters. It will feature accommodations, social and recreation areas, a library, and a dining hall. Like other dormitories operated by the Foundation, this new building will offer comprehensive solutions addressing socioeconomic challenges, ensuring access to education, shelter, cultural activities, and counseling services. The dormitory’s mission aligns with the broader goals of the ‘A Girl Will Come’ program, focusing on expanding the Foundation’s capacity to support more girls.
In his address at the ceremony, Tolga Gürkan remarked on Allianz Turkey’s century-old tradition of promoting social welfare as part of sustainable development. He noted that the ‘A Girl Will Come’ program is a critical social investment aimed at preparing future generations through quality education and equal opportunities. This initiative strengthens Allianz’s longstanding collaboration with the Koruncuk Foundation, which began in 2016, marking a significant milestone during Allianz’s 100th anniversary.
Gürkan assured that Allianz would remain a steadfast supporter of the Koruncuk girls, extending from educational support to employment opportunities. The program assists children affected by the February 6 earthquakes, offering scholarships to university-bound Koruncuk girls, and provides vocational training, internships, and employment within Allianz’s network.
Dr. Figen Samuray, Chairperson of the Koruncuk Foundation, spoke passionately about the dormitory as more than just a building but as a beacon of hope and opportunity. She emphasized that supporting a girl’s education profoundly impacts societal transformation. The facility aims to provide a safe and nurturing environment, especially for girls affected by recent earthquakes, ensuring that their dreams contribute to a brighter future for society.
Speaking at the event, Hasan Gözen, Deputy Governor of Istanbul, acknowledged the historical importance of girls’ education in Turkey. He expressed gratitude to both the Koruncuk Foundation and Allianz Turkey for this meaningful project, expressing confidence that the girls nurtured here will become the progressive leaders of tomorrow.
