Introducing the First SD Express 8.0 Card by Adata

Adata has taken a pioneering step by launching the industry’s first SD Express 8.0-compatible memory card, boasting impressive read and write speeds of 1.6 GB/s and 1.2 GB/s respectively. This breakthrough technology surpasses current UHS-1 solutions by up to 12 times in speed and outpaces UHS-II by up to 4 times, even rivaling some entry-level NVMe SSDs.

The Premier Extreme SD 8.0 Express card will be available with a 512 GB storage capacity. SD Express technology, introduced with the SD 7.0 standard in 2018, is now gaining traction in the market, especially with the anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Revolutionary SD Express Technology

SD Express cards function similarly to SSDs in computers, utilizing PCIe lanes and the NVMe protocol. Even the most basic SD Express cards offer a theoretical maximum bus speed of 985 MB/s (PCIe 3.1 x1). With the SD 8.0 standard, PCIe 4.0 x2-based cards can achieve speeds of up to 4 GB/sec.

Adata’s Premier Extreme series utilizes SD Express 8.0 technology with a PCIe 3.0 x2 interface, delivering read and write speeds of 1.6 GB/s and 1.2 GB/s. However, despite these impressive capabilities, the card’s U3 and V30 classifications only guarantee a minimum sustained write speed of 30 MB/sec.

Advanced Features and Market Availability

The Adata Premier Extreme SD Express card, with its 512 GB capacity, also incorporates built-in LPDC ECC technology and supports multi-device simultaneous access. The speed rating of SD Express cards is indicated by the letter “E” and a number. For instance, an E150 rating ensures a continuous write speed of 150 MB/sec. Currently, most SD Express cards on the market lack this specific rating, instead adhering to traditional U3/V30 speed classes.
